Harry Potter: Wizards Unite (HPWU) was jointly developed between Niantic and WB Games San Francisco. Development began in 2017 and the game was announced on November 8, 2017. Regional Beta releases began to be delivered after about eighteen months of development.

The Australia release was originally announced for April 24th, then it happened on April 26th, but then Niantic rolled it back later that day and sent an apology.
