Peridot
–
One Dot, Two Dots, Dead Dots, New Dots
Niantic’s first wholly-owned property since Ingress. You raise imaginary creatures from birth to adulthood and work with other players to diversify their species. The mobile game received generative AI enhancements in 2023 that made the pets more lifelike. Whether you wanted more lifelike pets or simply wanted to not crash on launch is a question that was never fully addressed.
The Peridot beta became available in Malaysia on April 22, 2022 and Singapore on May 24, 2022. It was released globally in May of 2023.
As of 2025, the original mobile game has entered what we charitably call a “maintenance-as-service” phase: technically alive, receiving occasional performance improvements, but receiving no meaningful new gameplay. The pets still hatch. The species diversity numbers presumably still increment somewhere on a server. Nobody is sure anyone is watching.
In a move that tells you everything you need to know about where Niantic Spatial’s priorities now lie, the Peridot brand has pivoted to “Hello, Dot”—a mixed-reality experience for Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro. The original “pet-on-the-go” mobile concept has been quietly interred to serve the needs of headset manufacturers who need adorable creatures to justify their hardware pricing.
Ingress Prime, which survives mainly on its status as wholly-owned by Niantic, refused to comment. It was too busy renaming itself.
