On June 29, 2023 Niantic announced an organizational update including plans to close their LA studio and layoff about 230 employees. However, they also emphasized how important Pokemon Go is to their strategy:

The top priority is to keep Pokémon GO healthy and growing as a forever game. While we made some adjustments to the Pokémon GO team, our investment in the product and team continues to grow.
