The application was a virtual tour guide that recommended nearby landmarks and other points of interest. Field Trip paved the way for the games that followed.

Field Trip was shutdown in July of 2019. It was the first Niantic application that made it out of beta AND was terminated. The announcement offered hope that a “reimagined version of Field Trip” could return one day.
